Welcome to our revitalized website, this will be a platform for connecting with the MPC’s board and members. Here, you can stay informed about club events and industry developments. With members hailing from different states, companies, and facets of the business, we are fortunate to view our industry from multiple angles and aim to use that perspective to better support and understand each other.
The MPC – originally called the Motion Picture Bookers Club – began in 1939 as a group of
filmbookers looking to socialize after hours. Those drinks, dinners, and luncheons allowed for networking opportunities and fulfilling relationships in a pressure-free environment filled with people genuinely passionate about film. Since then, we have recognized those informal
exchanges could provide significant support to our industry and its relations. Our current focus, though libations still play a starring role, is fundraising for industry-related charities. Further, our name change in the late eighties by former president Joe Reid – dropping “bookers” – formally recognized the already growing number of members from distribution, exhibition, advertising, and theatrical vendors.
Our mission is to make a meaningful impact, whether it's through having a great time with good people or supporting those in need. We focus on helping individuals in our industry as well as children who deserve a better chance at life. To achieve this, we donate to charities that can make a difference. Will Rogers – Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, Variety the Children’s Charity, and Ronald McDonald House NY are some of our longest partners.
Each president of the club has brought their individual experiences and charities to our roster: Hank Lightstone, in honor of Sala Hassanein brought in the Boys & Girls Club of Queens. Bill Thompson, the Kidney Foundation. Rising Ground was fostered by two of our Vice Presidents Emily Zarow- Lange and Alison Matheis. Lori Bandazian’s term focused more on intimate gatherings to help keep a shrinking NY community close. My immediate predecessor David Ostrander’s focus was just keeping us alive during the pandemic.
During my presidency, I hope to modernize our operations, cultivate volunteer opportunities for our members with our charities, and provide a variety of social events to keep our community close. This club and furthermore this industry’s diverse members are our true strength. The fact that we are so close-knit yet wide-reaching means every contribution is significant, personal, and meaningful.
Hopefully, as our new initiatives evolve, you will be inspired to bring your own passions and get involved in the club. Keep an eye on the NEWS tab on the website for updates and important announcements.
See you at the movies!
